Campaigners step up fight against adult social care cuts

CAMPAIGNERS have stepped up their fight against cuts to adult social care by presenting a 10,000 signature petition.

Don’t Cut Us Out – West Sussex is calling on West Sussex County Council to reverse the cuts in care support and benefits to the elderly and those with ‘moderate’ learning disabilities.

The council says the move means it will focus on substantial and critical level needs bringing West Sussex in line with nearly 80 per cent of English authorities which provide for substantial and critical, or critical level needs only.

But the decision to cut social care funding to 4,500 disabled and elderly people has been branded ‘disgraceful’ by Don’t Cut Us Out.

Its 10,000 strong petition, raised during two weeks of campaigning, now forces a debate at the next full council meeting on Friday May 13, when more than 2,000 disabled and elderly are expected to protest outside County Hall in Chichester.
