Disability benefit reforms ‘built on myth’ – activist

THE leader of a disability forum has criticised the coalition government’s plans to change disability living allowance, claiming they are built on ‘myth and misrepresentation’.

People with disabilities currently receive Disability Living Allowance, which helps meets extra costs such as home help or transport, associated with a disability.

But in January, minister for disabled people, MP Maria Miller, suggested replacing the DLA with Personal Independence Payments, which assess people’s needs according to mobility.
