Reliable estimates of total disability living allowance claimants in residential care homes are not available as we are unable to identify accurately DLA claimants who meet the full cost of their residential care.

Respite care at breaking point in Wyndham

2 February 2011

CARERS across Wyndham are at breaking point because of a chronic lack of respite services for children with disabilities.

There are no government-funded overnight or weekend respite services in the municipality, and the state government, which is responsible for funding centres designed to give carers a much-needed break, has no plan for establishing one.

Wyndham Council has vowed to lobby the government to fund facility-based respite services in the city and to work with other agencies to tackle gaps in weekend respite for young people.

Furious at Wirral council’s closure of respite services

2 February 2011

NEVER have I been so angry as to the way Wirral Borough Council have decided to close down care and respite homes based on a so-called borough-wide consultation.

There are more than 311,000 people in Wirral, of which 38,000 are carers.
